Do you use any chemicals or herbicides?

Chemical herbicides can harm fish, wildlife, and neighboring properties. They also require waiting periods before swimming or using the water. Manual removal is immediate, targeted, and safe — you can swim in the cleared area the same day. It also avoids the regulatory requirements that often come with chemical treatments on Michigan lakes.

Is manual removal as effective as chemical treatment?

For most residential waterfront situations, yes. Manual removal clears the vegetation immediately and thoroughly. The trade-off is that weeds will regrow over the season — but so do chemically treated areas. Many customers find that a seasonal maintenance schedule with recurring manual visits keeps their waterfront consistently clear without any chemical exposure.

What types of aquatic weeds do you remove?

We remove most common nuisance aquatic vegetation found in Oakland County lakes, including milfoil, curly-leaf pondweed, coontail, cattails near the shoreline, and floating mats of algae or vegetation. If you're unsure about your specific weed type, send us photos and we'll let you know.

How long does a typical job take?

It depends on the size of the area and weed density. A standard dock and swimming area clearing typically takes 2–4 hours. Larger shoreline jobs or heavily overgrown areas may take a full day or require multiple visits. We'll give you a time estimate when we provide your quote.

Do I need to be home during the service?

You don't need to be present for the entire job. We ask that you're available at the start for a brief walkthrough to confirm the scope and any specific areas to focus on, and at the end for a final check of the cleared area. If that's not possible, we can work out the details in advance.

How far in advance do I need to schedule?

It varies by season. During peak summer months (June–August) we book out further, so earlier is better. In spring and early fall we often have more flexibility. Reach out as soon as you're ready and we'll let you know current availability.

Do you offer recurring maintenance?

Yes — and many customers find it's the best way to keep their waterfront consistently clear. Aquatic weeds regrow throughout the season, so a single clearing is a great start but recurring visits (weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly depending on your growth rate) keep things manageable. We'll recommend a schedule based on your specific lake and weed situation.

What happens if it rains or the weather is bad?

Light rain doesn't stop us — we work in the water anyway. We'll reschedule if there's lightning, high winds, or conditions that make it unsafe to work on the water. We'll communicate with you in advance if weather looks like it may affect your scheduled service.

How much does lake weed removal cost?

Pricing depends on several factors: the size of the area, weed density, water depth, site access, and disposal preferences. Because every waterfront is different, we provide custom estimates rather than flat rates. Send us photos of your waterfront and we can often quote you without an on-site visit.

How do I get an estimate?

The fastest way is to use our estimate form and attach photos of your dock, swimming area, and shoreline. You can also text or email us photos directly. For larger or more complex jobs, we may schedule a quick on-site walkthrough before finalizing the scope.

Is there a minimum job size?

We don't have a strict minimum, but very small jobs (a few square feet around a single dock piling, for example) may not be cost-effective compared to a DIY approach. We'll be upfront with you if we think that's the case.

What's included in the base price?

The base price includes manual removal of aquatic vegetation from the agreed-upon area, collection of removed vegetation, and standard on-site disposal (placement in an upland area on your property such as a lawn edge or garden bed). Haul-away service — removing the vegetation from your property entirely — is available at additional cost.

Do I need a permit to have weeds manually removed?

In most cases, no permit is required for manual hand removal of aquatic vegetation on your own residential waterfront property in Michigan. However, some lakes, townships, or homeowner associations have specific rules. We're familiar with common Oakland County regulations and will let you know if anything applies to your situation.

Does my HOA or lake association need to approve the work?

Some lake associations or HOAs have rules about waterfront maintenance. We recommend checking with your association before scheduling if you're unsure. We're happy to provide information about our methods to help with any approval process.

Michigan has regulations around aquatic invasive species and certain types of waterfront work. Manual hand removal of vegetation on your own property is generally permitted, but we stay current on relevant rules and will flag anything that may apply to your specific job.

Can I swim in the area right after service?

Yes — immediately. Because we use no chemicals, there are no waiting periods. The water is safe for swimming, fishing, and all other uses as soon as we're done.
